Commom Mistakes in English - I HAVE GONE TO vs. I HAVE BEEN






The present perfect forms 'have gone to' and 'have been to' are commonly used to refer to movement. There are slight differences in these two forms when speaking in relation to the present moment. Notice the differences in the examples below.

As formas do Present Perfect 'have gone to' e 'have been to' são normalmente usados ao se referir à movimento. Há pequenas diferenças nestas duas formas quando falado em relação ao momento presente. Note as diferenças nos exemplos abaixo:


Has gone to vs. Has been to


... has/have gone to ... refers to someone who has gone to a place but has not yet returned.
- Refere-se a alguém que foi a um lugar mas não retornou ainda.


Examples:

. She´s gone to the supermarket. She should be back soon.
. Where has Paul gone?
. Where is your mother? She´s gone downtown. She will be back home in the afternoon.


... has/have been to
... refers to a place which someone has visited sometime in his life. In other words, "has been to" refers to an experience. Refere-se a um lugar o qual alguém visitou alguma vez em sua vida. Em outras palavras, "has been to" refere-se a uma experiência.


Examples:

. He's been to Paris many times.
. They´ve been to Disneyland three times.
. I´ve been to São Paulo twice this month.
