Gramática: Modal verbs: CAN, MAY, MIGHT, COULD
.
A: I see it’s raining again.
B: Yes, but it’s still early. It [can] may/might/could clear up later.
A: I was planning to go to the sea.
B: Well, the weather [couldn’t] may not/might not be so bad down there. It’s often better on the coast.
A: Yes. Actually, if I go, could I borrow your new camera?
B: Yes, you [could] can/may. But be careful with it, please.
Obs. os modal entre aspas [--] não é possivel o uso deles nestas declarações.
Expressar permissão
• can ou may são usados para formular um pedido polido ou dar/negar permissão. May é mais formal do que can.
Can/May I open the window, please? – Yes, of course you can/may. / No, I’m sorry, you can’t/may not.
You wanted to borrow my printer. OK, you can/may.

• could pode ser usado em pedidos, mas não é usado para dar/negar permissão.
Could I look at your map, please? – Yes, you can/may (could).
I’m sorry, but you can’t (couldn’t) park here. This is private.
Expressar possibilidade e incerteza
• may/might/could (mas não can) expressam que algo é/será possivelmente o caso.
A: The phone’s ringing.
B: It may/might/could (can) be for me. I’m expecting a call. [Esta ligação pode/poderia ser para mim...]
A: How much will the repair cost?
B: I don’t know. But it may/might/could (can) be quite expensive. [Isso pode/poderá ser bastante caro.]
• may/might not (não can’t/couldn’t) expressa que algo possivelmente não é o caso.
A: The phone is ringing. Aren’t you going to anwer it?
B: It may/might not be for me. Perhaps it’s for you. [= É possível que a ligação não seja para mim.]
• Mas:
A: Look, the postman’s coming with a big parcel. Are you expecting something?
B: No, it can’t/couldn’t be for me. I’m not expecting anything. [= É impossível que o pacote seja para mim.]
RESUMO
• Pedir licença/permissão (“posso?”): can…?, may…?, ou could…?
• Dar e negar uma permissão (“você pode/não pode”): can(‘t), may (not), mas não could (not)
• “isto é possivelmente o caso / é possível”: may, might, could; mas não can
• “isto, possivelmente, não é o caso / é possível que isto não seja o caso”: may not, might not; mas não can’t, couldn’t

A fantastic Horizon (one of my favorites) that looks into the research on Dark Matter (with a twist of comedy to it!)… We know what 4% of the Universe is made of. But what about the rest?
There was a time, not so long ago, when science seemed to understand how the universe worked. Everything – us, the Earth, the stars and even exotic-sounding supernova – was made of atoms which were all created at time-zero: the Big Bang. In between the atoms was nothing, a void: quite literally, ’space’.
But recently things have started to unravel. There is, it seems, a lot more to the universe than meets the eye. According to the best estimates, we only really know what about 4% of it is made of.
But if only 4% is made of atoms, what about the rest? The rest is made of mysterious entities about which very little is understood, with equally mysterious names: dark matter and dark energy...... assista o domentário completo no link

Is the planet able to cope with all we throw at it? Are we pumping too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere?
Our planet is really tough.
And that’s not about to change. In the long run, Earth can cope with anything we throw at it.
We could clear all the jungles, but a jungle can regrow over a thousand years.
We could burn all Earth’s fossil fuels, flooding the atmosphere with carbon dioxide.
But even then, it would take only a million years for the atmosphere to recover...........

Nosso planeta é realmente durão.
E isto não está para mudar. A longo prazo, a Terra pode lidar com qualquer coisa que jogamos nela.

Good assistant to memory (bom auxilio para a memória)
Assistente é tambem HELPER (ajudante) e SPECTATOR (espectador)

Como dizer VOCE NUNCA VIU NADA IGUAL e EU NUNCA VI UMA COISA DESTA

Para dizer 'você nunca viu nada igual' em inglês a sentença equivalente é 'I've never seen something like that'. Agora digamos que você queira dizer "eu nunca vi uma coisa desta". Neste caso a sentença é "I've never seen such a thing".


Algumas sentenças que ilustram o uso das duas expressões:

We've never seen something like that.
We've never seen such a thing.
I've never done something like that. [Nunca fiz nada igual.]
I've never done such a thing. [Nunca fiz uma coisa destas.]
Mas caso você queira perguntar a alguém então use as seguintes:

Have you ever seen such a thing?
Have you ever done something like that?
